The Teeth Marks of Time

7 November 2007

It’s been a long while now since Buffy, Angel and Firefly went off the air. And far too long without any new addition to the Whedonverse. So I was stoked to read the news about the upcoming Dollhouse, but then the writers guild strike struck. Which Joss Whedon fully supports and I definitely get why it’s needed. But it means the prolonging of the waiting. I hate waiting.

Speaking of waiting and whatnot…why can’t I just do what I want when I want to? Caribou is playing at the Triple Rock. I’ve missed it every other time Dan Snaith has come to town. Tonight looks like no exception. Even if I had a kidsitter, Battles is also playing, at a different venue (a much lamer one though). Instead I’ll just stay home and miss both shows. And pretend I’m doing it on purpose. Some day the little man will be old enough to accompany me (not that he’ll necessarily want to). Last night the poor thing crawled into bed at 6:30. Not a night owl yet, that’s for sure.

undressing the last cupcake

Bonus: I hate waiting…but I do like bath time.
Plus: If the kid is feeling up to it, we’ll be hitting up the MN RollerGirls Feast of Hurtin’ this Saturday night. There’s nothing like hearing yo mama chanting “Faster Faster Kill Kill Kill.”
And: Stopped by the library last night and picked up Ghost by Alan Lightman. Next on my list is Stiff by Mary Roach. Between that, and my burgeoning addiction to Bones (thanks a lot Maria!) I’m a little worried about where my head is at. Hmmm.

Touching from a Distance

Most of the males in my life have been deeply flawed. Freddy is just the latest. He can be so cute and sweet, yet I spent the weekend trying to hide paper products from him. Saturday morning I woke to find he’d shredded an entire roll of paper towels in the kitchen. And he played a game of cat and mouse, so to speak, with the toilet paper rolls. Which I kept hiding in different spots, but he eventually got a hold of. Despite that minor frustration it was a most decent weekend. I postponed some of the unfun stuff to enjoy the good weather and good times with friends. Jumping into piles of leaves with the little man, cupcake Saturday, repeatedly rolling down a big hill (said hill will be transformed into a mini golf course in the Spring, with the return of Walker in the Rough) and more. I even got a little grown up time and saw Control with a friend. But that time change can go suck it. Seriously.

leggy

Bonus: Needed a little extra something to get me going today, and that something was the latest from Junior Senior. Who could possibly be in a bad mood while listening to the Happy Rap?
Plus: I only just realized Danny Gregory started blogging again (after a little break) and has posted an awesome piece of work called School for Evil.
And: Two Stephin Merritt shout outs today. This morning Pitchfork reported that The Magnetic Fields will be touring early next year, in support of their upcoming album, Distortion. Then on the drive home I heard a piece on NPR, where they gave him some photos and words as inspiration, and two days to turn that into a fully formed song. Interesting stuff.

Unknown Pleasures

Control opens at the Uptown Theater today. I’ve been waiting for this movie for a long long time. Looks like I’ll have to wait a little longer. But just until Sunday.

Sadly I don’t have time for NaNoWriMo this year, which began yesterday. But Mustachio 2007 requires much less effort on my part. I am lacking facial hair (thankfully) but I always have my camera handy. Last night we kicked things off with our Shavy Thursday party. Good times.

every day is Halloween for the little man

Bonus: When good parenting goes bad…I exposed the little man to the Wassup meme, SuperFriends version only. This morning he woke up and instead of Wassup? he asked me What is going on? Very Data-like of him, avoiding contractions and all.
Plus: Mediagenic Polymath needed.
And:
Brand new, the Minnesota Meow blog!
