Worth Reaching For

The last 24 hours or so have been especially active. After work last night, when the little man and I were reunited, I took him over to the co-op to pick up a few things. He was immensely pleased to find the little red grocery cart available for his use, and made many playful attempts to run over other co-op patrons with it. Thankfully we escaped without having injured anyone, but he was confused by our strange detour on the way home. We cut back through downtown, past the former site of the Ice Palace (now dirty ice rubble) where we’d been earlier in the day, zipped by the Children’s Museum, and came to a stop on Cedar. Yes, my friends, I took my child to the Hunan Garden. But only to say a quick hey to a small contingency representing the Upper Midwest Blog Managers Association. It was quite loud at the bar and the little man and I ran the risk of being removed, as one of us was underage, so we headed home before long. Back at the ranch groceries were put away, a bath was given and then it was bedtime for the boy. And Smile Time for mom. Ben Edlund (creator of The Tick) + Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy and Angel) = pure brilliance. Went to bed happy, despite the show’s cancellation after this season. Today I woke up to find an email from a former co-worker…who saw me on the morning news (still don’t know what channel) as he was getting ready for work. Speaking of work, I have a dilemma. I’d originally planned to take the little man to the State Capitol today, to attend the Voices for Children Advocacy Day rally (to oppose proposed state budget cuts to early childhood education and childcare next schoolyear, to the tune of $86 million). Our ECFE class requisitioned a school bus for the event (see, it’s all about buses this week). Unfortunately it won’t return in time for me to get to work on time. We could city bus it there and back, leaving a tidge early. But right now the idea has me feeling a bit overwhelmed. Perhaps I’ll be perkier after coffee.
p.s. Click on the river photos to launch larger versions, if you so desire. Unfortunately the photos don’t do justice to the amazing view.
