Messy, but Manageable

I’m not always so disorganized. I mean, sure, my house is a cluttered mess and I have now missed recycling day pickup for six weeks running and I utterly failed to do holiday cards this year (perhaps Happy New Year cards instead?) and we didn’t get a tree until just last night. But I did start pulling together the boy’s Giftmas presents months ago. Now all have been acquired, wrapped and are sitting under the tree. They are:

  1. A Nintendo Wii
  2. A 2009 Wallace and Gromit wall calendar
  3. A blue Mexican wrestling mask
  4. Horton Hears a Who! DVD
  5. A cushy new Wham-o sled
  6. A four hour EEG slated for the Monday after Christmas.

Ok, those last two aren’t wrapped and under the tree. The sled is too big and bulky. And that last one? I did bust my ass to make the appointment happen before the end of the year.

So…I realize it’s the holidaze and all, but lately I feel like I’m talking to myself. Someone say hi! What’s the weather like where you are? If you have kids, what did you feel obligated to get them?

orange and white scaffolding

Bonus: The (Mostly) True Story of Helvetica and the New York City Subway
Plus: Great graffiti art done in tape. And another fab artist/illustrator, Kate Banazi. I particularly like her Wrestling Salary Man screenprint.
And: Tonka trucks! I think I remember this commercial from 1980.

Hi! The weather is pretty awful here (SE Michigan). Just managed to kill battery on car then blow major fuse when trying to jump start it. Husband has now invested 6 hours in getting replacement fuse. Kids are 2.5 and 5 mos. so not too many gift obligations yet. Keeping it light to make room for delige grandparents will send/bring. I an envious of your Wii.

Ouch. I know too many folks having car troubles right now! And I’m perpetually sore from shoveling snow. Hopefully I can stretch out and limber up before using the Wii :-)

Good luck with your car, and your little ones!

I want to get us a Wii to mess with rockband and music in the basement. I think he would LOVE Wii Music. but I’m in no rush.

Hi, Darlin! Since I am home with the kid all day long, I usually feel like i’m talking to myself and then I realize that, in fact, I am! Okay…it’s getting better now that she’s getting older.
Anyway…since my child NEVER sleeps…I still have to wrap all of her presents…like tonight…and it’s now 9:15 and she’s still not asleep. Anyway, she’s gettin a gaming system too, but, it’s one of those VMotion thingys. And, some ice skates, and a few other small items. She wanted that crazy bike thing that hooks up to a game system, but since our house is way too small for that, she’s getting this one instead. She’ll probably be bored of it in a few weeks anyway! I hope you and the little dude have a great Xmas :-)

if you’re talking to yourself, then you’re in good company.

both of the kids asked for rock n’ roll guitars this year, and while I’m pretty sure they meant the real things, we got them Guitar Hero. Also some clip boards and note cards, cutting boards and wooden spoons, and matching bathrobes. They’ll probably like them all equally.

Weather report: currently snowing tiny baby flakes.

  6. We all just finished with a horrible stomach flu that hit the kids, then me, then the rest of the kids. I’m obsessed with cleaning the house now. I want to be fun and make cookies or some such, but shouldn’t these guys be stressed out too? I mean isn’t it normal to tidy up for company? If they’re really expecting Santa shouldn’t they be trying not to look like lumps in a pig sty?
I tried to go all minimal this year with one well thought out gift from us and one from S for each kid. Then I got all last minute panicky imagining their faces not beaming tomorrow morning and I nickeled and dimed myself to death on stocking stuffers. And this for my kids, one of whom is still calling his underwear his xmas underwear because he got it in his stocking last year. (-A genius idea if I do say so myself since it helps fill them up.)
I hope your xmas is good and your little man appreciates everything. So glad to hear that your following up with his medical stuff as that sounds scary.

    Just saying hi!

Im on vacation in San Francisco and the weather is rainy today. But it has been sunny and in the 50’s/60’s for the most part. Just happy that we will be making it home in time to have Christmas with the kids. First flight was canceled and they said that we wouldnt be going home until the 26th. Rebooked on another carrier and are taking the red eye out of here tonight. (If all goes well.)

We got the kids a lot of little things, but the main items were a pink DS for our little girl and we got our boy his first digital camera.

    Merry Christmas!

hi! it’s cold out here, which is unusual. i live by the ocean for a reason, but this year we got dumped with snow which made me totally miss colorado. then i remembered how WA drivers act in snow, and i missed it even more. sigh. this year i bought maggie a bunch of yo gabba gabba! stuff. since she’s not mine, i didn’t feel obligated to get her anything that would make her smarter or teach her a bunch of stuff. just something fun we can both sing along to and dance to. there’s a party in my tummy, so yummy! so yummy!
