We’re in the red zone right now, pollen count-wise, and it’s pure hell (according to the map Vermont is the place to be, stateside - otherwise Iceland would do nicely). The little man and I have been feeling both crappy and crabby, so we skipped yesterday’s Craftstravaganza and didn’t make it out to the roller derby either. So sad. But it hasn’t been all bad.
- Friday we ate pizza for dinner on Punch’s patio as Critical Mass rolled by.
- I’ve found myself liking Lily Allen.
- Hot Fuzz was hot! Absolutely LOVED it and can’t want to see it again. Some discussion afterwards brought up a BBC show called Green Wing that I need to check out.
- Saturday morning we made it to the Oak Street for Flights of Fancy. The animated shorts were delightful.
- The little man has been pausing after his anecdotes…then tacking “for real” on to the end of them. So cute.
- Even more fond of Roger Ebert after reading this: “we spend too much time hiding illness“
- Borrowed The Last Witchfinder from J. It was written by “scientific humanist” and all-around interesting author James Morrow. Alas, we are not related.
- Planning to check out This Mango is Now an iPod at the Soap Factory.
- “The Right Number is a projected three part online graphic novella about math, sex, obsession and phone numbers presented in an unusual zooming format.” See for yourself.
- Mark Jenkins is an American artist who creates sculptures and street installations using clear packing tape. Amazing stuff.
- This is a book title I would’ve come up with: I Like Food, Food Tastes Good: In the Kitchen with Your Favorite Bands. Maybe I should make a Minneapolis-specific edition.
Tomorrow it’s back to school for the little man (he just had all of last week off - wacky year-round schedule) and back to the vet for Olive, to be spayed and have a tooth removed. Then next weekend will be another doozy. Celebrating a grown-up friend’s birthday and a neighbor kid’s birthday. Naked Raygun at the Triple Rock. Cinco de Mayo in my ‘hood. Free First Saturday at the Walker. The Heart of the Beast May Day Parade, and more. And right now? I feel like I could sleep for a week. Hopefully I’ll be feeling better before then.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were on a tv series called “Spaced” that ran from 1999-2001. Sadly, I was in the UK but didn’t yet have a television, but my friend with whom I went to see Shaun of the Dead was raving about the show. Unfortunately, you can find it only on stupidly overpriced region 2 import DVDs. Nick Frost was also on a TV series worth watching called “Danger 50,000 Volts” that is available on domestic DVD (and on Netflix).
Don’t forget the Living Green Expo at the MN State Fair Grandstand May 5 and 6!
Sharyn, I adore how you have such a wonderfully savvy little blog here. Sadly, my blog is almost half-dead but I still write and post pix. Thanks!
Brian - I love Spaced! I’ve watched every episode a few times over. I wish they’d done more than two seasons/series of it. I’ll totally have to check out Danger 50,000 Volts.
Rena, you’re right! And there’s something else going on next weekend too that I half-remembered and have forgotten again already…

Oh my god James - how did I not know about that movie? And Dylan Moran is in it and everything!
Also, I don’t know why WordPress gets wiggy with the URLs in comments, but it’s annoying.
I almost went to see Hot Fuzz by myself this past weekend, but then I decided that I needed someone else enjoying it along with me to really appreciate it. It’s on the list.
I know that Green Wing features what’s-her-name from Black Books, but have yet to check it out.
I’m glad to know that I hadn’t missed Naked Raygun after all, but now I am white-knuckled with the “is it sold out” virus.
Amazing number of links in this post! You are a blog machine!
