Dip Your Brain in Joy

Five good things:

  1. Playing hooky with the little man. Three day weekend, aww yeah.
  2. Pomegranate jelly. Especially on a toasted whole wheat English muffin, with just a bit of Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheeseâ„¢. Mmmm.
  3. I pre-ordered the upcoming Ted Leo and Arcade Fire releases from Insound.
  4. Large squid lights up for attack‘ - the video made me flinch. In a good way.
  5. Yesterday I found out from two different sources, within about a twenty minute period, that Naked Raygun is coming to town. They’ll be playing an all ages show and an ID show at the Triple Rock. I haven’t seen them since 1988 or 1989, but I’ve heard that they still kick ass live. I can’t wait.

Bonus: Maxwell Loren Holyoke has a great name and makes some cool art.
Plus: How badly do I want this shirt? And this one? And this one too? Alas, I am in penny pinching mode.
And: Penny pinching mode be damned, I might just splurge on a brief sojourn to Chicago in May. To see the Arcade Fire. And my friend Anton. And to meet up with Em. Hmmm.

The Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheese is awesome!!! I totally agree that it is better than regular cream cheese. I like to eat it with chips and salsa.

Is it sad that I actually enjoy going to all-ages shows now? Back in my roaring early 20’s (you know, 3 years ago), I hated going to them and opted for the late, over-21 sets with all the hip people. Now I’m all, “Sweet….I can see a show, be home by 10:30 and in bed by 11!

Yay!! That would be so exciting if you came in May. Chicago will be in a better mood than it is now because of the impending summer.

Maybe I’ll even have my back deck set up so we can sip on beverages and look at….my landlord’s house and the alley. But, you know, in a good way. :)

  9. Phil, I know - I had the same reaction! It’s gonna be good good times.

Emily, I’m torn about this one. I like the early all-ages shows, because I’m old and tired, but I also like the ID shows because then I don’t leave the house until after the little man is in bed, which makes me feel less guilty about going out. Which brings me to the Chicago trip…and debating whether or not to bring the lad with me. Very torn on that one. I want him to see Chicago. But I also want to go out. Hem. Haw.

That movie of the squid has further convinced me that swimming in the ocean is something that I’m going to want to avoid in the future. Creepy. That was one fast fish!

  12. Couldn’t agree more Tim. Then again, I don’t know how to swim.

Zophia - the dental screening was just swell. I’ll gladly join you for the all ages show. I haven’t seen D4 in ages either.
