Taking A Brief Break From The Doom And Gloom Machine

Things that managed to make me smile recently:

  • The little man’s fashion choices, now that he dresses himself each morning. Today’s combo is classic. Extra long summer shorts with a too-tight sweater. Add some old-school Adidas or Pumas and he’d be oh-so emo.
  • James taking my mention of a “Nutella analogue” (in his comments) and declaring it the perfect name for his Stereolab cover band. Anyone have their own Theremin?
  • My sudden burning need to acquire a device I didn’t know existed.
  • Finding out that Elizabeth Fraser lent her angelic voice to the LoTR scores.
  • Hearing Elton John’s Tiny Dancer (while at Payless Shoes, of all places) and being reminded of the scene in Almost Famous…where everyone on the tour bus starts singing along to it.
  • The little man’s over-the-top excitement each time a package is delivered to our door. “Ooooooh, a box!”
  • Listening to Merry and Pippin’s audio commentary for the Two Towers (too bad there couldn’t be more of them, and less of Sean Astin).
  • Grown men playing with Legos…the Brick Apple: New York City in Lego. I love the taxi cab.
  • Gollum is Smeagol…fly like an eagle! (thanks Chuck)
