Gee Your Hair Smells Like Ramen

For years I’ve been a bit addicted to the good old imdb. Recently I was reading the bio for Dominic Monaghan (the actor who plays Merry in the LoTR). A quote of his set my wheels turning for some reason:
“I think deep down I’ve always wanted to be an actor. It was the one thing in school that I was undoubtedly enthusiastic about and good at. I coasted along being good at German, Geography, English and football but there wasn’t anything that I could really call my thing, my niche.”
You know how your friends each have their thing…the one who is into making pottery, the one who is obsessed with Go, the one who was in the peace corps, the one who was busted in high school for possessing ten sheets of acid. So I was wondering what my thing might be…when it occurred to me that it might just be “the friend with incredibly shitty luck”. Even so, an entry I read over at Mimi Smartypants pleased me immensely, for reasons my addled and exhausted brain can’t fully explain. Here’s an excerpt:
“Your life is your life! Stumble through it proudly! Weave in and out of the parked cars of your life, shout at the lampposts of your life, puke in the bushes of your life’s neighbors!”
I sure could shout at some lampposts right about now, but deep down I’m confident I’ll get through our current crisis…more or less intact (but not necessarily unscathed). I always do.
