Thanks for the Zak link. I had the good fortune to see him many times with Low and one amazing time playing with The Dirty Three!

As for Detroit, there are many places to explore and mourn the decay of. But there is also a great community of artists, crafters and musicians there who live there as well that you don’t always see in the press coverage.

Oh, I don’t doubt I could have some seriously fun adventures in Detroit! But all that entropy does make me a little sad. Just like watching the Lost Twin Cities does. We had some incredibly grand old buildings that were razed here in the 50s and 60s simply to put in parking lots or ugly-ass concrete block looking buildings.

And it’s just plain odd that my Lebanese immigrant family didn’t end up in Michigan anyhow, like many other Arabs of the day. Sadly I’ve only gone to visit the Detroit area to attend the Detroit Punk Fest that was held back in the late 90s. Some day I’d like to explore more.

To most, yes… It is somewhat depressing but there are exciting things afoot here in Detroit. If you come w/ adventure in mind and are open to new things then it can be a fun place. Cheers!
