Sharyn - my friend Carina's cats only go after black cords, so they found that wrapping all cords in white electrical tape helped a lot! Might be worth a shot :)

Freddy sounds just my cat when he was little. In fact, we got him because his prior owners couldn't take his destruction after a month.
I wish I had some better advice but he will outgrow it. Getting him fixed will help too. My cat was a total terror but now he is the sweetest, most even-tempered and social cat I have ever known. Maybe it is an adolescent orange cat thing?

Our puppy, Lilu, use to have a habit of eating cords. She went through my phone charger, 3 audio cables, and a $70 Macbook charger. Luckily she outgrew that, but it was a rough few months.
